Turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines can sometimes experience sporadic pre-ignition in the combustion chambers, manifested by a metallic noise and temporary loss of power. Known as LSPI (Low Speed Pre-Ignition) or Rumble, this phenomenon can cause high pressure in the combustion chamber, risking damage to the pistons and engine.

For modern petrol engines, often downsized and equipped with direct injection systems and turbochargers, the API has introduced the API SP standard. This standard aims to ensure the integrity of these engines against the risks of abnormal combustion. MOTUL 8100 POWER oil is suitable for all types of petrol fuels, whether unleaded, Ethanol E85, LPG, Diesel or biofuels.
