The dump valve, also known as a "blow-off valve", plays a crucial role in managing your engine’s boost. When your turbo is running at full speed to provide this boost, it cannot stop or slow down suddenly, as the intake system remains filled with pressurised air.

If this pressure has nowhere to go, it is sent back into the compressor, which can make the wheel turn backwards, causing a pressure overload that is harmful to the compressor. The dump valve is installed on the intake pipe and is fitted with a spring-loaded diaphragm or piston that lifts as soon as a pressure increase is detected. Once the air is released in a fraction of a second, you can shift to the next gear and boost resumes immediately, with almost no interruption!
