But what does a dump valve actually do? Also known as a blow-off valve, it regulates boost. When a turbo runs at high speed, it continues spinning even while the intake is still pressurised. With no escape route, this pressure can be sent back into the compressor, trying to spin the wheel backwards and causing harmful pressure spikes. The dump valve, installed on the intake pipe, uses a spring-loaded diaphragm or a piston to open when excess pressure is detected.
